Duncan Smith

Duncan is an urban geographer, interested in relationships between cities, economic change and sustainability. He is currently working on the ARCADIA project, which uses land use transport models to analyse vulnerabilities and adaptation strategies to climate change in the South East.

For his doctoral thesis at CASA, Duncan explored the topic of urban form and sustainable travel using novel GIS data and analysis techniques to measure intra-urban accessibility, economic growth and carbon emissions. This followed on from his undergraduate studies in geography and MSc in GIS from the University of Edinburgh, and transport research consultancy work at DHC.
